Allies R Hot Set (Slate)

The coasters are made of slate, which is created when compacted sediments are exposed to high temperatures. If that doesn't sound like a metaphor for queer experience, I don't know what does.  

They are 4"x4" and approximately 1/4" high.  In wood, that would be too thin but in stone each coaster has a nice heft.  The set of four slate, in fact, weighs over 4 pounds.

The Racer Red vegan cork feet are set off brilliantly against the dark grey stone.  I coat them on both sides with a Polyurethane spray to make them water-resistant and to make the engraving more stark.
